Common questions
Does Fornel work offline?
Recipes, preferences, shopping and cooking progress work locally. Searching for shops and routes needs internet.
How do I change the language?
iOS selects one of our seven supported languages from your preferences, with English as the fallback. Use this website’s language menu to see all seven.
Why are there fewer than three dinner choices?
Fornel shows up to three distinct matching dishes. Your time limit, exclusions, hidden dishes and ingredients marked ‘Need to buy’ in ‘Tonight without shopping’ can reduce the choices. ‘More dinner ideas’ shows unseen matches before repeating; ‘Show ideas again’ restarts the selection. Exclusions are not relaxed automatically.
How are ‘Not today’ and ‘Do not suggest’ different?
‘Not today’ skips a dish for the current visit. ‘Do not suggest’ saves a hidden preference that survives relaunch. Open ‘Taste & history’ from preferences and choose ‘Suggest again’ to restore it. ‘Make again’ saves a favorite; feedback to suggest a dish less often lowers its priority without hiding it.
When does a meal enter my history?
After you finish and confirm cooking. The recipe, portions, date and time are saved. Opening a recipe does not count as cooking it.
Can I clear preferences or cooking history?
Yes, separately in ‘Taste & history’. Both actions keep your pantry notes, exclusions, shopping and unfinished cooking. Clearing history also keeps your favorites.
Why is an ingredient marked ‘Not checked’?
Fornel does not assume you have or lack an ingredient. Tap it to choose ‘At home’, ‘Need to buy’ or ‘Not checked’. Always check the amounts needed for your selected portions.
How does ‘Tonight without shopping’ work?
Suggestions respect your time limit and ingredient exclusions, and leave out recipes containing ingredients marked ‘Need to buy’. Other ingredients still need checking. The mode cannot guarantee that a matching dinner exists or that everything is at home.
Why do I need to confirm amounts again?
Amount checks apply to this recipe and portion count. They start fresh for a new check, clear when portions change and are not restored after relaunch. A saved ‘At home’ note is not proof of enough stock for another meal. Check recipe notes, seasonings and optional extras too.
What if something is missing?
Choose ‘Something is missing’ and select the ingredient. Fornel records it as ‘Need to buy’ and returns to suggestions. If nothing matches, ‘Choose from all dinners’ returns to the regular selection. Your time limit and ingredient exclusions stay in place.
Can I continue an unfinished recipe?
Choose ‘Continue cooking’ on the home screen. Your step and the original portion count are retained.
Can I search without location permission?
Yes. Choose ‘Enter a city instead’. Route estimates start at the selected area’s center, not your actual position.
Does Fornel check store stock or allergy safety?
No. Check ingredient labels and cross-contact information yourself. Maps does not verify ingredient stock, prices or opening hours for Fornel.
Is my family’s shopping list synchronized?
No. Sharing sends the current list as text through the app you choose. It does not create a shared list with live updates.
How do I remove my local data?
Delete the app through iOS to remove its local app data. Offloading preserves data. Manage any device backups separately through Apple settings.
